Let’s face it: getting older sucks.
My legs certainly feel ten years older, and after many years of niggling injuries from footy they could be in for a shock when I start training regularly. I may have not put on a lot of weight since ’98, but I’m not exactly a toned athlete!
Stamina-wise, I’m ok for short runs right now. That’s the advantage I have over last time – I went from zero exercise in the last four years to going out every other day for a run; now, I’ve at least got many years of regular 5-a-side football behind me, even if I do feel I have the pace (and none of the skill) of an early-nineties Jan Molby.
Still, if 80 and 90 year-olds can run marathon after marathon, I think I should be able to!
